Portuguese-Norwegian Rover friendship project

The Portuguese - Norwegian Rover Friendship Project was a project who brought together rovers from the two mentioned countries for mutual learning and understanding. There were 26 participants and 5 leaders from Norway, and 10 participants and 4 leaders from Portugal. The venue was a Bible School in Loures in Portugal. They spend half a day on language activities to ease the communication between the participants. It is obviously not possible to learn a language in half a day, but it turned out to be very possible to learn some phrases and to inspire interest in the other language. Plenty of humour surfaced during the language activity.
Most participants planned before the camp (either alone or in a group with other participants) a scouting activity, and during the exchange they lead the whole group in this activity.
They had also discussed their values. The goal for this was defined as: “By discussing our values we hope to locate similarities and differences, and to see how the values are expressed in our different cultures.
Other activities were excursion to Lisbon, serving a traditional Norwegian meal and of course camp fires. On Thursday the Rovers participated at the service in Colares corps. On Easter Sunday they had their own Scouts Own. The project was supported by the EU program “Youth in Action”.

Summer camp VÄLÄHDYS 08

VÄLÄHDYS 08 was a summer camp organised by two scout troops from Helsinki (Kallion Kaiut and Tempelscouterna). There were six leaders, four scouts and seven cub scouts. All of them lived in tents and prepared their meals in the kitchen of the scouting hut. During the camp they swum, learned to use a knife, to make knots and how to do first aid and rescuing.

On Friday everyone practiced how to make fire and baked buns on the stick at the same time when other group was sawing and chopping wood (later they changed groups). In the evening they had great campfire and evening devotion.

On Saturday was a hike day. Then everybody walked in the forest and did different kinds of tasks. Cub scouts explored plants, listened to the voices from the nature and in the end of the hike leaders washed their dirty and tired feet. Scouts did geocaching. In the evening everyone went to sauna and ate pancakes.

On Sunday before everyone went home there was service in the nature.
